“Why does this always happen to me?”
“Why can’t I find somebody to love me?”
“Why am I here?”
The questions above and other similar ones are ones we have been asking God for as long as humans have been on this earth. We are curious creatures who want all the answers, and, in many cases, we want it now. If we don’t get our question answered straight away, we begin to wonder and at times doubt what we are meant to be doing with our lives.
When Christians have questions, we naturally turn to God but when a relationship or a plan doesn’t turn out the way we would like it to we begin to question God and by asking him “Why?” If God is quiet, then some people begin to seek answers elsewhere – “If God doesn’t have the answer I want then maybe someone else does.” It ends up being of matter of how patient we are and not how faithful we can be.
We have to learn what we want and what God wants for us can be two different things. Living here on earth we influenced by several factors that tells us that we should do this or have that to make us happy. We make grand plans based on what we would like to do and then we ask God or in some cases tell God this is how it is.
While it is okay to share our hopes and dreams with God, we must also realise that God wants to share the hopes and dreams He has for us. Whatever it is that God has in store for us, there is a need to learn patience because if we don’t and our questions to God are not answer we run the risk of losing so much more.
It is also natural that we will question ourselves when things don’t go the way we want them to. We need to remember to take our doubts and fears to God. Even if God doesn’t tell us why immediately, we need to make sure that we are faithful and patient – keeping our eyes upon him and not seek answers in other people, places, and things.
No matter how long it takes, God does have an answer for your whys…
For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. – Habakkuk 2:3 (ESV)
